Park Vista boys’ basketball shines during holiday break

The Park Vista Community High School boys’ basketball program recently enjoyed success in tournament action as they performed at ahigh level during the holiday break.

The Park Vista boys’ basketball varsity team picked up two victories during the third annual Sunshine State Winter Challenge at Boyd Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes from Dec. 28 to30. The tournament featured 15teams from South Florida.

Park Vista opened the tournament with a 54-50 victory against Elite Academy. Senior guard Jalen Altvater recorded 15 points to lift the Cobras offense. Senior guard Tony Wade added 11 points and senior forward Kelton Warren chipped in with 10 points.

Park Vista bounced back after falling in the second game as they closed the tournament with a strong performance and a 78-72victory against Terra Environmental. Altvater had a team-high20 points with nine rebounds and six assists. Warren registered 17points, six rebounds and three blocks. Wade recorded 14 points and senior guard Jake Lynch added11 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Park Vista, under the direction of head coach Terrence Atkinson, won four of its final five games during December.

“We are thankful to Marcus McGee for putting on the Sunshine State Winter Challenge and giving our athletes the chance to showcase their skills to a bigger audience, “Atkinson said.

Park Vista also had an impressive performance at the sixth annual Sunshine State Preseason Classic earlier in the season during November at Westminster Academy and Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale. Park Vista defeated Blache Ely 63-47and they also had a 63-60 victory against St. Thomas Aquinas.

Park Vista had several top performers on the court through the first two months of the season. Senior guard Carlos Perez leads the team in points scored, assists and steals. Senior forward Samuel Domond leads the squad in rebounds and blocks.

Perez had 28 points, six assists and five rebounds in a 20-pointvictory against Palm Beach Central. He scored 27 points to lift the Cobras to a 10-point win against Palm Beach Gardens during December. Perez also delivered 32 points in a five-point victory against Atlantic during November.

Senior forward Samuel Domond stepped up with 14 points, six rebounds and five blocks against Palm Beach Central. He also had17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four blocks against Palm Beach Gardens.

Park Vista has competed against several top programs through the first two months of the season, including games against Lake Worth, Wellington and Suncoast.

“We have played a competitive schedule to prepare our kids, “Atkinson said.

The Park Vista boys’ basketball freshman and junior varsity teams both stepped up and captured tournament titles at the City of Riviera Beach Parks and Recreation Holiday Tournament.

The Park Vista junior varsity squad cruised past Forest Hill78-42 in the championship game. Tre Goldwire and Josh Riviere were both top performers on the court.

The Park Vista freshman squad defeated Inlet Grove 63-44 in the championship contest. Ethan Pochette and Sammy Jabr both stepped up to help lead the Cobras to the title.
